hi! glad you're back home - have missed the contact! we're having a great
moon in china. Hongkong was UNREAL - i loved it. there was so much hustle &
bustle..the city is thumping with commerce...neon adverting signs are
crammed into every available spot, billboards everywhere markets, shops and
more shops .the streets are alive with consumers, shopping and eating....
Surprisingly there's also a stack of character to the city, the backstreets
of hongkong island are a maze of cobblestone allies which work their way up
the steep hills that are the backdrop for the city..and there was greenery
too. It was a brit/asia fusion works well.....skyscrapers covered in bamboo
scaffolding...packed subway system full of funky young hongkies being told
to 'please mind the gap' as they alight at Mong kok station for the
night-time markets..double decker trams cruising past hundreds of yum cha
stands. what a city!
we're now in guangxi province..and it's a total change of pace... so sleepy
and laid-back. The scenery here just can't be described and it's really
unlike anywhere else we've been. Huge limestone karst peaks jut out of the
earth, covered in greenery, intermingled with green rice paddies and clear
green rivers...We've spent the past two days cycling to look-outs and tiny
villages..where we'd swim with water buffalo and have lunch on the river
banks in bamboo huts. It's so nice and tranquil here...hypnotic even.
anyway, there's a cool tsing tao beer waiting for me outside, i better not
let it get warm. will write more soon, now that you're home.
hope rinnie's being well-behaved - remember 'the rinnie-stick' comes in
useful in times of despair.
Thanks again for a wonderful wedding - we had a ball, you two are the
greatest ever! Really, it should be you on the holiday unwinding, not us!
lots of love Caraxxxx
