Music

Most of our family has been involved in music of varied genres over the years.

The term music loosely describes what we pluck, plonk, wail, hum and jig about.

In terms of professional success we have all had our 10 minutes of fame, some more than others. We have treaded the boards to rapturous applause, been bathed in the warm glow of appreciation, been loved and idolised, if only by a discrete discerning audience, sometimes the bathroom mirror. We have done our apprenticeships in the roadhouses and jukejoints of imagination, then reality in the pubs and clubs of cacophonous indifference. Then the moments of rapture are remembered like the one swing or kick which took the ball home, and you know, given the harmony of time and circumstance that you could be, but only if you really wanted to, at the toppermost of the poppermost.

Brother Anthony, known to all of us as Tony, is very adept on guitar, mandolin and banjo. He supported Tommy Emmanuel a couple of years back  and has recently given birth to his CD, "Nightflight".  Check out "What's New" for my review and also his webbo     http://www.anthonymcgloin.com

Cousin Andrew McGloin had national and international professional success accompanying and producing Scottish Australian folkie Eric Bogle (writer of The Band Played Waltzing Matilda etc). http://ericbogle.net/bogleband/index.htm   He also played with the Screaming Jets singer. He has written some interesting music in the past and I understand that he is stepping back on the boards soon. More than any of us Andrew is the real deal in terms of achievement, auditorium, sanctorum, laudate. Let the soft rain of warm adulation drip through my bones. But Andrew would be the first to admit that the real pleasure of music is the unexpected, that magical moment when the porch combo fires and soars.

Cousin John Nokes is adept on guitar and has led a number of units in the UK.

Cousin Chris McGloin led a number of musical configurations in Sydney and Adelaide as writer and performer. He and wife Christine have retired to the warmer climes of Cairns where he rarely dons the black leather now he says "except when the missus is in the mood...", but writes songs on his computer and sings to the lizards, snakes and creatures of the night.... More on Chris can be found in Cara letter 2001 , the Radio Bio and more recently Music and Food Part 1.

Son  Dan has moved to Sydney and writes with band mate Dale for ska/punk Final Warning which includes ex Canberran, Suspenders guitarist Bernard Young. 'Nard also writes which means Final Warning has a strong independant musical resource. Final Warning is a militant ska band which rose from the debris of Denied An Alibi, a popular and powerful punk reggae unit on the ACT youth circuit.  Final Warning Cds are available through their website or at gigs. Also, a number of tracks were put on the MP3 website for free download, which gave them the top five in the 60+ MP3 Alt/Ska charts in June 2005. More can be seen at the Final Warning link above.
